As a general rule, all non-essential medications should be stopped during at least the first trimester (the first 15 weeks) of pregnancy. This is the time when most of the baby's
important organs are being formed. However, no asthma medications should be stopped until your asthma specialist is consulted because the risks associated with having an asthma attack during pregnancy generally are far greater than the risks of taking asthma medications.

How to control allergies. How to treat allergies divided
into broad groups. Antihistamines and Leukotriene Antagonists

General measures such as the use of soothing creams and wet
wrapping can help allergic skin disease.

Drugs are effective in the control and treatment of allergic diseases
but do not cure the underlying allergy.

The type of drugs, their names, and whether or not they are
available without prescription, varies from country to country.

Drugs and therapy used to treat allergies can be divided
into broad groups:

Drugs that block the activity of chemicals that are released in
the body during allergic reactions - antihistamines and
leukotriene antagonists;

Drugs which relax the constricted muscle around the airways
of the lungs, or shrink congested tissue, or
reverse the effects of the chemicals released
during allergic reactions - bronchodilators,
decongestants and epinephrine;

Drugs that prevent the activation of cells
that are involved in the allergic reaction -
anti-allergic agents;

Drugs which possess a more general action in
reducing inflammation - corticosteriods;

Therapy which modifies the immune response - allergen
immunotherapy.

A vacationer in Puerto Rico is bitten by mosquitoes, and
applies ointment from a local aloe vera plant to stop the itching. Unaware she is allergic to the substance, she applies it again shortly before returning home. By the time she arrives at the airport in the U.S., she has a bright red
rash as a souvenir of her holiday.
