The position statement by the AAAAI on this condition

AAAAI Board of Directors

American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology   USA

Your commentsIt is imperative to note that, toward the end of this particular position statement, the AAAAI expressly makes known its recognition of "true environmentally caused diseases," one of which was not regarded by the AAAAI to be IEI/MCS. Therefore, medical science does not consider true environmental illness and chemical sensitivity (without the word "multiple" in front of it) to be manifestions of mental illness. Therefore, intolerance of nontoxic levels of chemical-bearing agents, such as perfume, is NOT "all in your head." After all, mainstream medical science has identified a significant of chemical compounds as "Potent Sensitizers." Now, examples given by the AAAAI, in its IEI/MCS position statement, as real and valid environmental illnesses include Reactive Airways Dysfunction Syndrome, Sick Building Syndrome, and Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis. In as much, Chemical Worker's Lung is simply a form of Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis. And other forms of medically recognized environmental illness include Irritant-associated Vocal Dysfunction, Reactive Upper-respiratory Dysfunction Syndrome, Nonspecific (aka Irritant-induced) Rhinitis, Small Airways Disease, IgE-mediated Ethanolamine Sensitivity, Phthalic Anhydride Hypersensitivity, Airborne Irritant Contact Dermatitis, Occupational Acne, and Irritant-induced Asthma. Sulfites, for example, are documented to have triggered asthma in some persons and anaphylaxis in others. And the same holds true for the hair bleaching agent ammonium persulfate, and also the formaldehyde which is furthermore known for triggering adverse upper-respiratory inflammation and erythema. Diisocyanates are well known triggers of asthma too, as is glutaraldehyde, ramin wood's plicatic acid, and pine's albietic acid. Halothane and benzene inhaled at the workplace have been individually documented as having caused hepatitis, as well. And a significant number of chemical compounds a re known to trigger dermatitis in susceptible persons. All in all, nontoxic levels of chemicals have been documented as having caused adverse physical reactions in susceptible persons. And environmental illness is already recognized by mainstream medical science in case-specific form. From: Patrick
